I / O is the means by which a computer information exchanges with the outside world.Devices that provide input or output to the computer, called a personal computer peripherals.On Typical devices include input devices like keyboard and mouse, and output devices such as screen and printer. Hard drives, floppy drives and optical disc drives serve as both input and output. Computer networks is another form of I / O.



Often, the device I / O are complex equipment in their own right to its own processor and memory. A graphics processing unit might contain fifty or more tiny computers that perform the calculations necessary to display 3D graphics of modern desktop computers contain many smaller computers that assist the main CPU in performing I / O.
